While my aunts been here... I've managed to do a bit of shopping. Well, really window shopping.

This little store we found in Battle Creek, Mi. You wouldn't believe the jems he had sitting around. They were over priced for what I'm used to paying or like to pay, but hey! he's in it for the bottom line. I'm in it to create and feed my addiction to re-purposing.

This dresser was priced above $600. *moving on*

Hutch $1500

Crosby radio sporting missing knobs, missing back, water damaged covered by the junk on top $150

None working Radio with missing backing $350

Broken lunch box with replaced handled $10 the painted one on the back $25

Look at the sea of vintage furniture. Gosh I sure hope this place doesn't catch on fire or flood because although he is over priced... some of his pieces are beautiful.

Update Vintage 1953 Table Fan

I have always been so addicted to vintage electric fans... My love affair started many yrs. ago in H.S. I've collected many and I've sold many more on CL. This is one of 3 that I've been holding on to but after some research since the metal fan craze is being reignited, I decided to update it.

This is how my 1953 Knapp Monarch Jack Frost 10" Desk Fan looks after sitting in my basement for over 10 yrs. I found it in an old condemned farm house in Mt. Pleasant after graduating from H.S. (oh the things I've done for the love of vintage).

After many trips to RH, PB and Target I thought it time to start working on my VERY old pieces. So, little by little they're finding their way out of their hiding spot. 

Here's the one from RH that drew my attention. Allaire Desk Fan Brushed Nickel

Retails for $99-$149 OUCH! *crossed eyes*

I took it apart, taking pictures along the way so, if I didn't remember where all the screws go I'd still have a reference "a picture is worth a thousand words". 

I couldn't remove the blades for some reason and so I wrapped it up in a grocery bag since I wanted to keep them "original" anyways. 

I taped all the metal functioning parts w/ Green Frog tape. Can you see some green on the cord? 

 I sprayed. Let dry. VOILA!!

What do you think? Maybe next time I should paint the blades too. I've seen the blades in BLACK and the fan SILVER. Or maybe I can paint the fan BLACK w/ WHITE blades? I think that's all I can bring myself to do since I'm not a fan of bright colors, been there done that. I'm in LOURVE w/ earth tones. BROWNS, MUSTARD, GREEN, WHITE etc.

Vintage Dresser Re-Do Reveal

Hey guys, I finally completed the vintage dresser. I thought long and hard whether I should paint the mahogany or not. I'm so pleased w/ how it turned out... It's pretty BLACK!

Although, look at what I was working with HERE

I filled in the cracks and dents, but not too much since I was painting it black I wanted to keep some roughness. I don't know, just made sense to me and I really love how it turned out. (Sorry bout the grainy cell pics on the photos below)

It's simple and it only took about a week to finish it up.

I've listed my process here.

I found it at the GW for $3.00. It is an Estey Furniture dresser. I looked every where for information and the only thing that I was able to find is that it originated in the 1800's. I'm not quite sure what the exact date on this dresser is, but if you have any idea please, please, please let me know...

I went w/ the glass knobs, since I have so many of them why not use them right?

I love the legs on this dresser. So dainty and feminine!

Don't look so bad for being a $3.00 dresser, right? LOL

 

Psst! can you believe after all that work it has a bottom sticky drawer LOL

This weeks finds... SCORE

I couldn't wait 'til to share this w/ everyone... and I'm hoping that you'll be up to handing me a little help figuring this one out.

Here goes!

I found this BEAUTIFUL piece at the local GW and I melted. I had this feeling mid last week that I was going to score and find a great wonderful piece that I could work on and concentrate on and would you believe that as soon as I walked in the store I saw this and grabbed it. But it required a bit of fight since there was another man that wanted her. But I WIN!! LMBO

Here's the history. This is an Estey Standard Furniture Co. from Owosso, MI dresser. The mirror is missing and it's pretty dinged up but OH man, she is a beaute!

Take a look, what do you think? what shall I do w/ her? I need help from my blog-ettes =)

Busy Month... 'Tis what I've been up to

A side from working on little projects here and there, this chair is taking up all my concentration. Finding the perfect fabric for it has proven to be more challenging then I anticipated. I've looked at so much fabric in the last couple of months and yet I love them all! Oh which to choose from??? I've started working outside of the house again. Bummer yet, goodies! Gotta stack up the chips for Thanksgiving & Christmas. So many plans, wants and needs and so little money... AGH!!

Project chair I got from Cheri... we couldn't resist so, we started stripping it right away! It is old, dusty and beautiful!! I wish you could see and touch it. Oh, how I love this chair and can't wait to dress her up. THANK YOU Mrs. Cheri =)

It's been a while...

I'm in the process of looking for new employment so unfortunately I haven't had much time for blogging. Life get's in the way! I'm sure you're well familiar w/ this movement AGH!

She is a beauty and smells delish. No dents, no scratches and she is all mine. Don't be mad, but I will paint her flowers away. It's just not my steelo =)


Metal Mirror I must paint!

 The silver metal does not go well on that space. So white she will be.

Kitchen door that needs painting, since I can't find the perfect glass door to put there;

Bdrm dresser that will go white; because once you go white you never go back. =)

Another unfinished project;

I reclaimed it from the one of the boys room. I have to remove all those spiderman stickers, sand prime and paint. I'm not certain what color to give it yet.

I still have a desk, shelf and more that needs to be painted in the garage. 

My deadline is end of October or by end of 2010... LOL

Cleaning Green

I've been using Seventh Generation for years... I'm finally giving it's formal props. Somethings I like somethings I don't. IE; I'm not convinced by the laundry products yet, but I'm def. an avid user of the cleaners.

Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner. Although, there are several scents to choose from, I opted for the Lemongrass and Thyme. The smell gets getting used to but it works. So, now when I smell it, I know it's clean. I spray it on and let it do it's job for a few minutes, then I wipe it off. My fridge is super-duper white and clean... WhooRah!

I was using their household paper goods, but I switched over to CVS's Brand for toilet paper, paper plates and paper towels. Maybe because it's just so much closer to my house and don't need to make a special trip to the health food store or order online for it.

I always use my Extra Care card even though the coupons and discounts are not as generous as they used to be a couple of years ago, I'm still hopeful =)

Nellie's All-Natural products is new to me. But I recieved my package from Crate and Barrel a couple of months ago and it works. Way better then Quixtar powder bleach. Plus, it's a steal in comparison to Quixtar and Arm & Hammer and the tin can is Gorge! =)

I'm trying to limit our foot prints and yes, it's costly. Where I live recycling is a bit pricey for my tastes but I guess I'll have to consolidate in other areas and take it all the way.

From vintage to fabush

One of my .30 cents find at GW! Came w/ nothing in it.

I added; padding, left over fabric I used for basement curtains and VOILA!

Here she is finished! =) I loves it...

From what I found online, she dates back to the early 60's, made in Travers city, Michigan, made of syroco material and right now she's going for $43.99 on eBay (although, the one on there is gold, but we all know black is so much seksier LOL). Bargain Corners RULE!!
