Green living going to far? NAH!! =)

I'm "Light Green" but I'm doing my best to achieve "Green".

Maybe this is TMI, but I have to share. My friends think it's gross but I it's kinda cool and green, not to mention the savings in female products a yr.

I've been using the Diva Cup since the end of 2008 and I'm loyal to her. Well, maybe not on the heavy days but for the most part it's my first choice. It takes practice, patience and more practice. I wouldn't recommend that you go out to the movies, mall or date on the first few tries. Using it at home the first few times while you clean and do chores is probably the safest bet until you are fully comfortable w/ it.

I won't show you mine, cuase that's gross =) You have to cut the little bottom tail on it, fold it in to a U shape (or whatever is convienient for you) and use it.

Menstrual cups can last up to 10 years. They great for travel and there have been no reported cases of toxic shock syndrome.Cleaning it up is a cinch.

I know there are many questions about the menstrual cups. Feel free to ask and I'll give you my experiences.

Sexy Water =)

This Voss sparkling water is the sexiest and most refreshing water I've had. It's so smooth and tingly.

Find it at World Market along w/ Lorina Pink Lemonade.

DYI

I had some leftovers from other projects, so as I was bagging garage sale items and cleaning out drawers,. closets and such... I had an idea to make this.

Here's what I used.

2 metal planters
Burlap
Styrofoam (left over from online orders)
Knife
Fake tall grass

This is how I put it all together;

I cut the foam to perfectly fit in the planter.

Make sure it fits nice and taught, to avoid shifting;

Cut a 3 in. long piece of foam to fit on the inside. Again the bigger the more secure the grass will be.
Fill the lower tin w/ the burlap. (I didn't secure mine, I figured I can change it according to mood)

It's nice for filling in gaps in or around furniture.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

What team are you? Edward or Jacob?

Frizzy-licious Cocktails and little foods

I thought I would share my favorites w/ you... light and frizzy, YUM!

I've been stocking up on these from World Market for years. I use it as a nice "cool down" summer drink and I also have plenty on hand to mix a cocktail when my friends are over for a few hands of cards and movie night.

Lorina Pink Lemonade and Lorina French Berry, YUM! I know, I've already said that =) for an alcoholic beverage you can mix it w/ gin or Smirnoff Framboise twist vodka.

The girly champagne that will please all taste buds, I promise. (Thanks Jenny for the introduction)

Lastly, you should always keep a bottle of this and green tea (your favorite flavor) around for those surprise visits.

I try to serve w/ french baguettes and some German patte I get at the local Bosnian supermarket. Cheese and veggie Morning Star Links.

You can find an assortment at the Health food store.

I've been eating these for YEARS. I've seen them go from $2 a bag to $5. But I still buy them because they are always a hit. Although I have to say I won't share them for every gathering. At $5 a bag I select my audience very well... LOL

You can find them at the health food or Meijer;

This is a snowy, light and satisfying cheese. I get it at Meijer but Marthas Vineard has a better selection.

Gouda;
I'm still trying to identify which is my favorite.. What's yours?

Side tables = Coffee Table

I found these side tables at the GW last summer. I asked them to lower the price (they know me there for ALWAYS asking for a lower price and oddly so, I always get my way *blush*) and I got them both for $2.00.

After sitting in my garage all winter, waiting to be dressed. And now they are dressed in black (shocker, right?)
See my 10yr old holding the sander? he gets a kick out of sanding, but rarely painting or re-constructing =)

Forgive the mess in and around the living room. Since my basement is still suffering of a lack of carpet, this is where I spent most of time reading, watching TV, crafting and so forth... I promise to put better pictures up when the living room is completed. And minus the MESS! =)

Next is finding two great baskets that are not country.

BTW, that pleather chair was a CL find last summer. It has a bit of oops on it, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Cleaning Green

I've been using Seventh Generation for years... I'm finally giving it's formal props. Somethings I like somethings I don't. IE; I'm not convinced by the laundry products yet, but I'm def. an avid user of the cleaners.

Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner. Although, there are several scents to choose from, I opted for the Lemongrass and Thyme. The smell gets getting used to but it works. So, now when I smell it, I know it's clean. I spray it on and let it do it's job for a few minutes, then I wipe it off. My fridge is super-duper white and clean... WhooRah!

Facts taken from the Seventh Generation website;

  • Features and Benefits

    • Kills Influenza A Virus including H1N1
    • EPA Registered
    • Quick and easy cleaning
    • Disinfects while you clean
    • Effectively controls odors
    • Will not harm hard, nonporous surfaces

I was using their household paper goods, but I switched over to CVS's Brand for toilet paper, paper plates and paper towels. Maybe because it's just so much closer to my house and don't need to make a special trip to the health food store or order online for it.

I always use my Extra Care card even though the coupons and discounts are not as generous as they used to be a couple of years ago, I'm still hopeful =)

Nellie's All-Natural products is new to me. But I recieved my package from Crate and Barrel a couple of months ago and it works. Way better then Quixtar powder bleach. Plus, it's a steal in comparison to Quixtar and Arm & Hammer and the tin can is Gorge! =)

I'm trying to limit our foot prints and yes, it's costly. Where I live recycling is a bit pricey for my tastes but I guess I'll have to consolidate in other areas and take it all the way.

Everything Should be Gluten-Free!!

From vintage to fabush

One of my .30 cents find at GW! Came w/ nothing in it.

I added; padding, left over fabric I used for basement curtains and VOILA!

Here she is finished! =) I loves it...

From what I found online, she dates back to the early 60's, made in Travers city, Michigan, made of syroco material and right now she's going for $43.99 on eBay (although, the one on there is gold, but we all know black is so much seksier LOL). Bargain Corners RULE!!

What's in "your" purse? =)

I was out to dinner w/ my girl friends and I was curious at all the stuff we were all pulling out of our bags and how fascinated we all are by what bag we strap over our shoulders. I rarely buy "new" anything except for shoes. I'll confess; the majority of my great bags are from GW.

So, here's a peek inside one of my many bags...

I found this great little coach bag for .30 cents (if you live in Michigan, contact me and I'll let you in on where to find GW left overs for .30 cents =)  )

So, what's in your bag?

Bargin Corner Finds

The Hob Lob and GW are so good to me... I find everything I need only by checking the far back corners in the stores. It never fails! Whoo Hooo

Gold finial $4.00; which must be painted. 70's plastic frame.30 (no chips, no cracks), flower pot .30 cents, 2 Hob lob carved candles originally priced at 12.99 and 14.99; I got mine for $1.20 each UNBELIEVABLE DEAL! Leather picture frames .30 cents for both, scented oil another .30 cents, and the square candle holders; the set for .30 cents.

I have a BBQ table that I will show you in a later post.

Dinning Room Re-Do

It's been a busy weekend. Thanks Debbie for motivating me =)

Before

Notice the dinning set and curio?

After

First coat on table since I ran out of steam in between laundry, lunch, dinner and the what nots.
Anywho, I used Behr Premium Plus Mocha Latte. I looks absolutely delicious... Makes want to drink a latte.

I added the rug and metal scroll thingy I already had here in the house.

Next weeks projects;

1. Finish kitchen table
2. Paint wood trim in hallway
3. Paint main bathroom

Why are weekends so short? =)

Using Jute,,, Ah so simple

This is my first using jute and I'm not done yet =) I have so many other things to "jute" yet.

Here's a shot with out the flash. It looks so awsome in 'real' life with the soft glow of the candles.

My son had a great idea; dress up a can for his pencils and markers for the desk (he's always thinking green).

Decorative balls can run anywhere from 1.99 to 6.99 each, here is my version of decorative balls. Jute!

What I used; glue gun, jute $1.00 and 5 balls $1.00, all from the dollar store.

Lastly;

How do you use jute?
